Movie Review: Spider-Man: Far from Home ๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ๐Ÿ’‚๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Spider-Man: Far from Home not only managed to shock audiences, but it teased a very exciting future for the teenage web shooter.

This post for Spider-Man: Far From Home contains spoilers.

Set immediately after the events of Avengers: End Game, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019, directed by Jon Watts) passes the baton of the Avengers’ legacy to a web-slinging teenager from Queens, New York.

Even though five years have passed due to the “blip” caused by Thanos’ snap, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and his friendsโ€”Ned (Jacob Batalon) and MJ (Zendaya)โ€”are still the same age despite supposedly being 21. They have to repeat their senior year of high school before they can finally graduate.

Peter and his class go on a school trip to Europe in Far from Home, but Peter soon realises that just because he’s on vacation doesn’t mean that his hero alter ego Spider-Man is on holiday as well.

Jake Gyllenhaal, as expected and predicted, is indeed the villain of this movie. Gyllenhaal plays Quentin Beck aka Mysterio, who is an intelligent inventor and “illusionist”. Even though I had already known about this, months ago, I was still pleasantly surprised by the reveal of his villain identity and his motives for helping Spider-Man.

The visual effects that went into creating the unbelievable illusions in the movie resembled a videogame to me. It was so brilliantly executed that even audiences like me couldn’t differentiate between what’s real and fake. With Gyllenhaal’s fantastic acting as Mysterio, it really sold the whole illusion not just for Peter, but for audiences as well.

Far From Home also stands out in its unorthodox music choices. Who would have thought that Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You will be the opening song into this action-packed movie? A special memorial video tribute is played right at the beginning of the movie and narrated by high school morning news anchors (the same people from Spider-Man: Homecoming).

Come back, Tobey Maguire.

The first end credits scene for Far from Home also teased a very W-T-F moment for Peter Parker, as his superhero identity gets revealed to the whole world on The Daily Bugle by J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons), who at this point has starred in three other Spider-Man movies. Not only does this prove that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is embracing the multiverse storyline, but it’s possible that in the future we can see characters from previous Spider-Man movies return to reprise their roles againโ€”you know, like what Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse did last year?

The next Marvel movie to be released would most likely be Black Widow’s long-awaited solo prequel movie, which will likely come out next May. So I guess it would probably be a long wait before we get any answers as to what happens to Peter Parker/Spider-Man next…
