Jumanji: The Next Level teases new adventures ahead in the future.
This post for Jumanji: The Next Level is spoiler-free.
Returning two years after Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle became a box office hit, Jumanji: The Next Level (2019, directed by Jake Kasdan) follows the same group of teenagers who return to the video game once again—only this time with new additions to the game and an exciting adventure.
I think this second movie was filled with plenty of action-packed scenes, but the first movie was definitely more hilarious to watch because the characters were new back then. Seeing them for the second time in this movie lacked an element of surprise, as audiences are already familiar with Dwayne Johnson’s “smothering eyes”—the movie just isn’t that funny anymore when the writers try to reuse the same old jokes.
Nick Jonas’s character has once again proven to be as useless like he was in the first movie. And as for Awkwafina’s avatar—she definitely killed it in her part and proved to be a competent comedic actress who can star alongside Kevin Hart and Johnson.
Karen Gillan’s character Ruby Roundhouse didn’t have many changes since the first movie. She’s still the “Killer of Men” and though her action scenes were aplenty—her character stood out more in the first movie.
Comparing Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle with Jumanji: The Next Level, I would say that the first movie brought on more surprises and fun for audiences, but the sequel doesn’t fall far behind in terms of quality either and is still a worthwhile movie to watch in theatres.
